BRUSHING – Don’t Rush Your Brush

Dentist peterborough, Peterborough Dental Offices, Kids Dentist peterborough,

How well you brush your teeth is more important than how often you brush. Remember it’s the spots you miss where the problems start. Here’s five tips to improve your brushing:
  1. Take the time to carefully and gently clean each tooth, ideally twice a day. The average person brushes for less than 35 seconds. A good brushing takes at least two to three minutes. Quick Tip: Keep brushing for as long as a song.
  2. Be gentle, particularly when cleaning where the gums meet the teeth. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gumline, and gently work the bristles back and forth using short strokes. Don’t forget to brush your tongue, too.
  3. Use a soft toothbrush which is less likely to damage your teeth and gums. Choose a size and shape that enables you to easily reach every tooth.
  4. Be sure to change your toothbrush frequently. Every three months is recommended; more often if you’ve been ill. Quick Tip:  New season – New toothbrush.
  5. Remember to floss too, since no amount of careful brushing, can clean between your teeth!

CAVITIES AND THINGS EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW

Cavities are almost 100% preventable. Since tooth decay is the #1 chronic condition in children and 90% of adults, 20-64 years old have at least one cavity, it would probably be best we do everything we can to prevent them. Sealants are a great way to help kids not get cavities. Be sure to also never share forks, spoons, straws and food as this spreads germs that cause tooth decay. And as always, be sure to brush and floss at least twice a day for 2-3 minutes at a time.

Mira SAYS!

Dentist Brampton, Brampton Family Dentist,
It is essential that we brush everyday and at least twice a day to protect the teeth and overall oral health. However, with busy day to day lives, although brushing might be done on a regular basis, if done wrong, it can cause damage to the teeth. Below are common mistakes done when brushing.

1) Not brushing long enough (Brushing should be done for at least 2 minutes)
2) Not paying attention when brushing (It is very important to pay attention and brush all areas of the teeth)
3) Using the wrong toothbrush (A soft bristle toothbrush is essential for proper brushing of the teeth)
4) Brushing too hard (Causes breakage of the tooth structure)
5) Not flossing (Flossing is essential in removing food stuck between the teeth)
6) Not using a mouthwash (Benefits of a mouthwash)
7) Not rinsing after brushing
