Bleeding gums are mainly due to insufficent plaque removal from the teeth at the gum line. This can lead to gingivitis or inflamed gums. If this plaque is not removed, it may harden into tartar and this will eventually lead to more bleeding, and a form of gum and bone disease, known as periodontitis. Daily brushing, flossing and regular dental appointments can help with plaque removal.
